Word Processing

Using the Internet

Word Processing … a hearty course that brings with it the opportunity to become quite literate in the use of Microsoft® Word 2002.

The first three lessons of this nine lesson course give the learner an excellent foundation in skills for the beginner.  First, the introduction to computers and word processing takes beginners into the mysteries of computer use gently by using words to which they can relate.  Next the new ones experience the preparation of simply formatted texts that are saved and later worked on to make them into sophisticated, finished documents.  The student brings his first rough materials back from storage, makes changes and corrections to them, and makes them into finished documents … memorandums, business letters, and specially formatted presentation letters.

Lessons four through six enhance skills by showing the student how to perform some unusual tasks which result in documents that present information in many interesting ways.  Time saving methods for sequencing information, justifying a line so it will keep both right and left margins aligned, printing up and down a page as well as across a page in the same group of documents, making sections of a document present information in multiple columns, printing envelopes, and justify (align both margins) of a document.

Lessons seven through nine are for those who need additional skills which make possible the preparation of such things as special reports.  Other tasks, such as: the preparation of news letters,

preparing mailing lists, printing letters which are personalized so a recipient may think you wrote the letter to him instead of his just being one of many to receive it, and printing envelopes or mailing labels.  Students learn how to send faxes … using the fax program as a printer.  And finally, information about different features of the operating system that makes our computers work properly.
